YouTube Video Chapters

Using Orchid Videos just got easier!

Fri, 30 Apr 2021

We've started using Video Chapters, making it much easier to find exactly what you are looking for in our ever-growing video library.

We’re proud of the amount of video content we’ve been producing for the Orchid Systems website.

We’re also aware that the more content we produce, the harder it can be to find exactly what you are looking for.

That’s especially so in our longer videos, which can cover a lot of ground, and jump from topic to topic.

We’ve tried to address this by adding better navigation, search and filtering capability to our website. We’ve also started to focus on shorter, more digestible ‘Fast Start’, ‘Spotlight’ and ‘Quick Tip’ video formats, but we knew we could do better.

It’s one thing to find the right video, but what if it contains a particular segment that might be of interest to you, and you don’t have the time or inclination to watch it from beginning to end?

We might just have found the answer.

Introducing Video Chapters

Recently, we became aware of a relatively new YouTube feature called ‘Video Chapters’.

When you include a timestamped table of contents in your video description, YouTube automatically breaks up the progress bar at the bottom of the video into chapters. As you roll over the bar, it displays the chapter headings, letting you easily jump to a particular section.

We're adding Chapters to all our new videos, and progressively adding them to selected older ones.

If you are watching the video directly in YouTube, the timestamps in the contents list will also be hyperlinked, taking you straight to the start of each chapter.

An added bonus is that, when searching the Orchid website, the chapter headings that match your search term will be picked up, and the video included in your search results.

Would you like to add chapters to your own videos?

If you are creating your own YouTube content, and think this would be useful, it’s dead easy.

The image below comes from YouTube help. If you click the image, it will take you to a YouTube tutorial video.
